Mr. Brent Adams

6th Grade Teacher

My name is Mr. Brent Adams and I am thrilled to be the 6th grade teacher here at St. James! I have been a Catholic School teacher for fifteen years around the Chicagoland area as well as Indianapolis, Indiana. I earned my Master’s in Elementary Education at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL in 2005. I obtained a middle school math endorsement for middle school as well. Furthermore, I was able to get further insight and work in the special education department last year at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, IL. I feel that there is something said when you are able to educate but also worship and discuss the Catholic faith openly. I am excited to be able to continue my journey and stewardship here at St. James!

My wife, Amy and I moved to Arlington Heights in October of 2018. We have embraced the community and love everything this area brings to us. I am looking forward to working with the 6th grade students and can’t wait to meet everyone and start this great year!

What’s Going On This Week: March 9-13th

English/Language Arts: As we approach the end of this month we will be doing more work in our Shurley book. We have approached Unit 2 and will continue with our persuasive speeches as well. Students are working hard with their rough drafts. We should be ready soon to give them by memorizing! Also, we will be working on more narrative writing as well. We will be doing a persuasive speech for the class on Thursday, Feb. 27th. Students are working hard editing, revising and memorizing.

We have just started working on our “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” book. We are in the process of working on our first chapter and understanding the characters, background, setting and exposition of the book! More to come!

Social Studies:

We have been working very hard on our Newscasts in Social Studies class! The kids have been very enthusiastic in regards to working with their groups and telling everyone about Ancient China! I cannot wait to see the final product! These will be due on Wednesday, March 18th! They will be shown in class on our last day Thursday, 19th. More to come on this!

NOTE: My apologies, for not getting this out sooner but we will not be doing anymore with the Greek god/goddess, due to costume issues, however, we will be doing other types of projects throughout the rest of the year and may perform those to some of the younger grades. Thank you again!

Classroom Rules to Live By

This year we are going to be living by the four standards for our classroom and our school.

  1. Be Safe
  2. Be Responsible
  3. Be Respectful
  4. Be Christ-Like

Each week we will go in depth into each of these sections and then continue to model these throughout the year!
