Food Allergies at School
Food allergies are a growing National issue. 8% of US children (5.9 million) under the age of 18 have a food allergy. Approximately 2 children per classroom are affected and of these children 38.7% have life threatening allergies. (http://www.foodallergy.org)
An “allergen free” environment is impossible to achieve, and to expect it is to harbor a false sense of security. However, we do our part by keeping our students as safe as possible by maintaining “nut-free” classrooms and offering allergy-free lunch tables in the cafeteria.
