Music/Art/Tech
Music
St. James School provides a comprehensive music program. Music classes are taught by the General Music Teacher, who has a Masters in Music Education from North Park University. General Music classes are offered weekly from Pre-K 4 yr-old (full day) through eighth grade. In the lower grades the focus is on basic music terms, singing, movement, and composers, with active, hands-on activities. The program advances to the upper grade levels which study composing, music theory, the use of technology in music and instrument playing. Music is integrated into a variety of disciplines to provide a well-rounded experience.
Art
Art education is offered to students in a variety of ways including classroom instruction and the Artist Awareness and Cultural Arts programs. In class, art is studied in every grade and taught by a dedicated art teacher. In the upper grades, art class exposes students to a variety of art media including drawing, design, painting, printmaking and sculpture.
At the end of each school year, the Parents' Club sponsors an Ice Cream Social, where each grade level features their art for families to come and view.
Technology
Today's high tech world requires students be tech savvy. SJS provides technology and training to prepare students to do internet research, produce multimedia presentations, and use academic software.
Students from kindergarten through 8th grade receive computer instruction and support from qualified computer teachers in one of the school's two computer labs on a weekly basis. Students spend at least one class period a week in the lab and that time increases when students require additional computer access to complete particular subjects or assignments.
