Academics
St. James School offers a challenging core curriculum that stimulates students to question, evaluate, discover, and create. In addition to the core curriculum, SJS provides an academic enrichment program for students requiring additional academic challenges. All SJS students are challenged to think critically and creatively, an approach designed to produce well-educated students who not only achieve top test scores but also are ready to take the next academic step.
The basic curriculum of St. James is appropriately challenging and offers a comprehensive academic program in reading, language arts, and mathematics for all grade levels. Science and social studies are introduced in the lower grades and emphasized in greater depth at the intermediate and upper grade levels.
The high achievement level of our students on nationally standardized tests reflects the exacting academic standards of our curriculum. In the spring 2007, St. James 8th grade students scored among the highest in the public school district on the Explore standardized testing for public high school entrance.
Religious education is provided at all grade levels, including both classroom instruction and participation in other activities that enhance a greater understanding of our Catholic faith. The school's spiritual director coordinates all religious instruction with the full support of our parish priests and staff in this vital area.
