Klopp Award

Beth Klopp, a 1987 St. James graduate, loved sports, excelled academically, and had a positive attitude toward her teammates, opponents, and coaches. At SJS, she participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, and cheerleading. She went on to play three sports in high school, and although she was never the star player, her coaches and teammates always appreciated her for her effort and competitive spirit. At St. Viator High School, she won several “Lion Awards” for her efforts and team spirit. Beth passed away, at the age of 31, after a brave battle with cancer. Throughout her life, she showed a love of team sports and a caring attitude toward her teammates.

In honor of Beth Klopp, a sportsmanship award is presented to a graduating 8th grade girl and boy who is selected by the coaches and Athletic Board for his/her participation in athletics with the following criteria:

  • must participate in at least two 8th grade sports
  • must be recommended by the coaches for excellent attendance at practices and games
  • must demonstrate respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials
  • must be acknowledged by coaches for their efforts to improve their own skills and those of their teammates
  • must enhance the chemistry of the team not only with play but with emphasis on the attitude he/she brings to the team
  • must carry a minimum of a B average in their 8th grade year
  • must conduct themselves in the classroom and the athletic fields with good behavior
