Cheerleading and Poms
Cheerleading is offered to girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. All girls interested in being a cheerleader are able to be part of the squad. The squad is led by an adult director and mentored by high school student coaches. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade squads cheer together at basketball games and attend invitationals. SJS follows the regulations of the ICCA (Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association) for cheerleading safety while performing stunts.
The pom squad consists of 5th grade girls. This is a fall and winter sport and the girls' first performance is a the SJS Tip-Off basketball opener in October. The girls also perform at a few home basketball games throughout the season. The squad has a final performance at the SJS Variety Show, held the end of Catholic Schools' Week.
