Hello SJS Parents,

This is an unprecedented time for our School and Parish. We are continuing to work to make sure we are still providing the best education possible for all the students. Next week we will begin our E-Learning plan. This plan will allow your children to continue their education and stay busy while they are home. Below you will find some of the answers to the many questions out there. As we work through this system-wide shutdown, I will continue to communicate updates on a regular basis.

I also want to take this moment to thank our tech donors. These E-Learning days would not be possible without their generous donations that have advanced our technology. Because of their support, your children will be able to continue their education even without the resource of our school building. Thank you, tech donors!

SJS E-Learning Basics
The goal of E-Learning is to continue the education of your children through remote/online means. Our teachers will be utilizing education management software to make this possible. Grades PreK-2nd Grade will utilize SeeSaw to send and receive assignments and assessments. Grades 3rd-8th will utilize Google Classroom as their means of receiving and submitting assignments, assessments, and projects. We are going to try our best to limit emails home and focus on communications flowing through SeeSaw and Google Classroom to attempt to prevent your inboxes from overflowing.

Schedule: Weekly
Given that we do not know when this system-wide shut down will end, we are going to take this a couple of weeks at a time. Next week we are going to use Monday as a teacher E-Learning Prep professional development day. This day will afford us the opportunity to collaborate as a teaching staff about the execution of a successful E-learning program for the best online instruction. Online lessons will begin next Tuesday 3/17 and continue through Thursday 3/19. Then we start Spring Break. We are leaving Spring Break as is and we will not have any E-Learning lessons during that predetermined time off. E-Learning would resume 3/30/20 if we are not cleared to come back to school. Please see the schedule below for more clarification.

Schedule: Daily

We are planning to start each school day with a virtual morning announcement that will be found on the online portal we are building. The online portal will also include important links and resources for students and parents. The E-Learning Portal will be shared with parents and students Monday 3/16.

In addition to the E-Learning Portal, your children will receive a daily checklist for their classwork. This checklist will include lessons, instructions, assignments, and the assessments they need to complete. Work will be assigned for all their courses, including specials, to the best of our ability.

Materials Pick Up (As Needed)
On Monday, we will be available from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm for people to stop by and pick up any additional materials that were not sent home today. Please come to the main office doors if you would like to pick up any materials.

I am confident the St. James Community will continue to support each other as we FIND A WAY to help best continue to educate your kids in Faith, Academics, and Character through the digital frontier.
