FROM THE DESK OF MRS. PAPPAS

SJS continued to celebrate our Blessed Mother during the month of May. We honor her in our daily prayers and celebrated Mary in a special way after this week’s Friday Mass with our May Crowning. The eighth grade class led the school in this annual tradition at SJS. It was the first opportunity for the second graders to join us at the Lord’s table during a school Mass. It was a memorable day for all!

A Prayer for Mother’s Day

Mary, Mother of Jesus, we ask you on this Mothers’ Day to pray for our own dear mothers. May your Son, Jesus, reward them for all the care they have so lovingly given us over the years. May He give them peace of heart for all the time they have soothed us in times of trouble or failure. May Jesus give them joy of spirit for all the time they have healed our wound and wiped away our tears.

We as you, Mary, on this day when we honor and praise our mothers for their unconditional love and care, that Jesus might bestow upon them His choicest blessings and His deepest love.

Amen.

ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RECOGNITION

Every three years schools are visited by representatives from the Illinois State Board of Education for a compliance and recognition review. The review at SJS was on January 31, 2019. This process involved filing an extensive application dealing with school policies, curricula, personnel, and student health and safety. In addition, the school was visited by a team to confirm the information submitted, check student, health, and personnel files, and examine health and safety on the premises by walking through the entire building.

The results of the visit has been processed finding St. James School in complete compliance and granted full recognition. There were no issues, discrepancies, concerns, suggestions, or recommendations.

Our staff and students should be very proud of the exceptional report. As stated in the commendations, special commendation should be given to Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Westerkamp for their presence during the visit and fastidious work in the health office and to Mike Tomasiewicz and Brian Booth for their exceptional care and maintenance of our buildings.

CLICK HERE to read some especially noteworthy items observed and highlighted by the visiting team, listed in the form of commendations.

St. James School’s National Junior Honor Society students went to Rustic Falls Nature Camp in Burlington, Wisconsin for a day of service. They worked outdoors to spread wood chips on a walking path, took down an ice rink, and prepped the porch to be repainted. They all worked so hard and accomplished so much! You can see more photos on the SJS Facebook page. Thank you to Mrs. Kirk, NJHS Moderator, for arranging this opportunity!

FSA SJS Teachers

We are so grateful for the dedication of our teaching staff here at SJS.

Thank you to our Room Parents and Committees who had many thoughtful gestures planned this week to let our teachers know they are appreciated.

Room Parents planned special treats throughout the week for their classroom teachers. Michaela Barrett coordinated gifts for all non-Homeroom teachers and Aides. Cheryl Bayer & Mary Reddin and the Hospitality Committee (so many delicious desserts sent in!) planned a wonderful luncheon for the teachers and staff to enjoy!
