The Lenten season can bring up some “wonderings’ for our children! At school, we teachers often get questions from our students like, why is Lent 40 days long? What is prayer, fasting, and almsgiving all about? Why are we to give up meat on Fridays?
Sometimes we know the answers and sometimes we have to refer to our resident experts, our priests!  If your child asks questions about Lent that you unable to answer, you can CLICK HERE for a great resource!

We’re so proud of seventh grader, PJ McLeod! PJ participated in the state level competition of the National Geographic Society Geo Bee over Spring Break and finished in the top 25 in the whole state!!! WOW!! great job, PJ!

Thank you, FSA for funding an Educational Technology wish list that included a green screen, Merge Cubes, Sphero Bolt robots, a 3D printer, Code-a-pillars, and Bee-bots!  Students throughout the grades have experienced opportunities to try out our new EdTech tools and are loving every minute of it!  Check out the video here to see what the buzz is all about.  We are so thankful for the support of our FSA and look forward to more EdTech advances!  •  Don’t forget to SAVE THE DATE for our STEAM fair! All PreK through 8th-grade teachers throughout our school look forward to inviting you into the classroom for special STEAM activities with your child(ren).  Watch the Fodder for details.

Congratulations to these SJS alumni, Class of 2016, who were recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Saint Viator High School: Daniel Ornelas, Grace Zimmerman, Katie McManaman, Alex DiMarco, Faith Cooper, and Christopher Perrotta (not available for the picture). We are proud of your success!

Our teachers, administrators and staff members are the Heart of our Schools. Our educational mission is lived out by the thousands of dedicated school employees who support our students every day. While our administrators, teachers and staff members do not seek out recognition, it is important that we celebrate their tremendous work. For many years, the Archdiocese of Chicago has honored outstanding Catholic school employees through the Heart of the School Awards. In fact, SJS teacher Mrs. Mary McDermott was an honoree last year!
