Given the extreme weather conditions so far this season the Office of Catholic Schools has made an exception in regards to the required number of school days per year. Their notice states:

“Due to the fact that we are requiring schools to participate for two additional days at the NCEA Convention in April as well as unplanned inclement weather that has caused schools to close, the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools deems it appropriate to have a one-time exception in our 2018/19 calendar requirements. Therefore, the calendar requirement for this academic year will be set for a minimum of 178 days.”

Therefore, at this stage of the game, SJS is in good standing having had school on January 21 and making up a day on February 4.  Barring the unforeseen, the stated last day of June 6 will stand.

SJS  has had  five cases of diagnosed flu reported at this time.
Please encourage your students to wash their hands as often as possible at home. Teachers are doing the same at school along with wiping desk tops and door handles with antibacterial wipes. HAND WASHING IS ESSENTIAL TO THE PREVENTION AND SPREAD OF THE FLU!

SJS is very excited to announce 2 author visits to our school!

On the afternoon of Friday, February 22, will host author Stephen Savage with all K-2 classes on Friday, February 22 at 1:15. Stephen Savage is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator whose accolades include a New York Times Best Illustrated Book (Polar Bear Night) and a The Babysitter from Another Planet.

Author and illustrator of the Corky and Gnat book series will be visiting students in Kindergarten through grade 2 in the library on Monday, February 25!

This series celebrates the beauty of our differences and the power and magic of the human spirit.  The books teach social and emotional awareness that allows children to see themselves in another child’s story. The books are hand painted with watercolor by Natalie Sorrentino (Gnat) and each story is written by Courtney Kotloski (Corky). The art is whimsical and the storytelling transcends all ages.
