FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL

SJS enjoyed a fabulous (albeit truncated) Catholic Schools Week, enjoying a Cultural Arts Program, “Be Kind” t shirts, a special gift, performing service, a NO HOMEWORK day,  special Mass, honoring special students and staff, and a memorable variety show! MANY MANY THANKS to so many volunteers for making all of this possible!!

Congratulations to the 2019 Christian Spirit Award honorees, Clarisse Chambers and John Whelan, and the SJS Heart of the School, Mrs. Sharon Dillon! We’re proud of you and thank you for all you do for the students, families, and staff at St. James School!

St. James School had a recognition visit from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) on Thursday. The team examined personnel folders and student health folders to confirm compliance with state code. They completed a review of a plethora of documents including handbooks, governance, curricula from all disciplines, food service, mechanical inspection certification, and health code compliance.

St. James received a superior rating and received full recognition!

Thank you to the staff members who contributed significantly in preparing for this visit and achieving the desired outcome!

Bravo to SJS teachers who are adding to their repertoire as educators. We’re so proud of our life-long learners!!

SEVERE WEATHER

This past week has been a challenging one weather-wise!

Unless you see St. James listed on the Emergency Closing Reports, assume the school is open.

IF A CLOSING OCCURS, the school status will also be posted on the school website and you will receive a phone message from School Messenger. SJS Facebook and Twitter pages will also be used for getting the word out.

A parent’s decision regarding school attendance due to bad weather is respected. Your support is appreciated as we try as hard as possible to stick to the annual calendar and avoid more makeup days in June!

Everyone who ordered a lunch for Wednesday (1/30) and Thursday (1/31) should see a credit on their account. A menu option has been added for Monday, February 4 since this is the make up day for one of the cold days. Please remember to order lunch from Quest or pack a lunch on Monday, February 4.

PIZZA WITH A PURPOSE REMAINS ON THE SCHEDULE FOR MONDAY, FEB. 11.

There was an opened over the counter Daytime Cold medication packet found on the floor outside room 210. This medication contains ingredients that could be harmful if found and taken by someone it is unintended.
Per our St James School Medication Policy, medication at school is discouraged but if it is necessary, it needs to be sent and distributed through the Health Office, following the procedure outlined in our Medication Policy.

SJS welcomed Culture Shock Chicago on Monday!

Students were treated to a high energy show that taught us about the culture of hip hop. Ask your student about the 4 pillars of hip hop – Peace, Love, Unity, Respect.

Even some of our SJS students & teachers joined in on the fun!

A big thank you to Jan DiCola for coordinating another fantastic Cultural Arts presentation!

Thank you to all who supported our annual Book Fair!

Jenna Hartman & Becky Dufern partnered with Anderson’s Book Fair Company to bring us a great selection of titles and educational playthings.  Look for news about upcoming author visits at our school.

The Book Fair would not have been successful without the many parents who showed up to unpack, stock, restock, checkout patrons, and repack!  Thank you!

All profits from the sale benefit our SJS Library!
