FROM THE DESK OF MRS. JUDY PAPPAS
SJS continues to spread the word of our excellent program. Last week our teachers were present at the AHML Pre K Information Night. This week we were at St. Edna after Sunday Masses and enjoyed welcoming an overflow crowd to our
Pre K/Kindergarten Parent Information Night. Many many thanks to the parent volunteers who have helped to organize and execute these events. Parents are our best marketers!

Catholic Schools Week starts a week from this Sunday! We hope that your calendar is marked for our big Open House that will follow the 11:30 Mass.Catholic Schools Week will be filled with fun events and activities that show SJS pride!
Many thanks the following students for volunteering for the 2nd Sunday of the month Sunday Mass
  • Greeters: Colin, Fiona, Declan, Aidan, PJ and Finn McLeod
  • Readers: Finn and PJ McLeod
  • Gifts: Harper and Jackson Kelly
As students experience at our all school Masses on Fridays, taking on a special role in and around the liturgy is very rewarding. It can be all the more so when doing it as a family! CURRICULUM CORNER

Technology Advances at SJS

Have you recently or will you soon upgrade your smart phone?  Did you know that your old Android or iOS device – if still “new-ish” (no more than one year old, has a 4 to 6 inch touch screen, is able to rotate orientation from horizontal to vertical (gyroscope), and is in good used condition with no screen cracks), can be used by our students to launch them into an amazing, exploratory world of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in the classroom? Just imagine it!

AR & VR can help teachers

  • Build Global Awareness
  • Enhance STEM Lessons
  • Explore Empathy
  • Ignite Creativity
  • Engage our students

Virtual Reality

VR uses a completely digital experience to surround you in an artificial environment.  The environment may be digitally created or an actual video from a true experience, allowing you to look 360° up, down, left, right.  Example:  Exploring inside and outside the volcanoes in Hawaii, watching the flow of lava, and seeing the layers of formed rock.

Augmented Reality

AR is an enhanced version of reality.  A digital layer gives the illusion that we see something in our physical world that’s not really there.  Example:  Viewing the solar system on a student’s desktop to watch the earth’s rotational orbit of sun and the moon’s orbit of the earth.

We welcome your smart device donations now!  Your donation can open a world of incredible educational possibilities for our students.  Please contact Mrs. Gina Zebron if you think your device can be donated for this exciting EdTech opportunity!  THANK YOU!!               gzebron@stjamesschoolah.org

BROADWAY BULLDOGS

The long-awaited information about a crew for Mary Poppins Jr. has arrived!  Signing up is time-sensitive, and students will be assigned experienced-based and first-come-first-served basis.  We are looking for a maximum of eight students from grades 6, 7, or 8. CLICK HERE for more information and sign up by 1.21.

The famous nanny, Mary Poppins, flies to St. James on February 14, 15, and 17 to help George, Winifred, Jane and Michael Banks repair their broken ways.  Come see the Broadway Bulldogs cast of 60 and mighty stage crew of 8 transform the Parish Center stage into 1910 London where you will watch statues come to life, see that a regular store is anything but ordinary, and where those dusty chimney cleaners “sweep” you away to the super-memorable and practically perfect music made famous by Walt Disney. The show promises to delight audiences of all ages!
Tickets are now available!  CLICK HERE to order. All tickets are $10 (under age 2 free).

Pat Farrell and Deacon Hahn also spoke about how faith, prayer, and Scripture are part of everything our students do here at SJS. CLICK HERE to enjoy the handout that was shared at the presentation.

The meeting minutes will be posted next week.
