FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Sunday, November 11, is Veterans’ Day.  Please spend a moment in prayer for the sacrifice of brave men and women who have fought for our freedoms.

Dear Lord,  We honor our veterans, worthy men and women, who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country.  We pray that you will bless them, Lord, for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.

Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made, for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression. We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them, and we pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Fall Conferences will take place this afternoon/evening and tomorrow morning. We are looking forward to sharing children’s progress with parents. Please be certain of your conferences times. Your promptness to appointments will help everyone have their conferences in a timely fashion. Parents are more than welcome to schedule additional time on another day with students’ teachers if they wish.

Have you or your child put their name on their belongings?? If you respond in the negative, you are invited to check out the lost and found (which is PLENTIFUL)! Tables will be out in the gathering space during conference days! Hopefully you will find items that belong to you!

Additionally. the gently used uniforms will be set out so that you can stock up as your children grow! Thanks to Mrs. Jill Justiniani for making this available on Thursday and Friday, November 8 & 9!

Congratulations to students who achieved Merit or Honor Roll for the first trimester! A whole new trimester is ahead to it again or make either for the first time the academic year!

Hello St. James School Families!
There are still spots available for class parties from this past weekend’s Jubilation auction! Good news!  We have re-opened the online auction!
Many of the parties land on Christmas Break, where kiddos will have extra time for fun!  (and parents may need a breather!)
All of the parties have been graciously donated and coordinated by SJS parents, let’s show our support by participating while also raising money for the many wonderful charities supported by Jubilation.
So please, step right up and sign up for your spot at a party today! Visit www.wedoauctions.net/stjamesparish

HOUSEHOLDS OF FAITH         FROM THE DESK OF MRS. PAT FARRELL

Earlier this week a meeting was held for parents of students who will make their First Communion and, equally as important, their first Reconciliation.

Right now our second grade classes are preparing for Reconciliation. As you know, this is one of the seven sacraments of the church and it precedes First Communion. I like to call it the most “human” sacrament because it addresses our relationship with Christ in the way we live our everyday life. So this morning, I joined Mrs. Madden’s second grade class as they continued their preparation for their first Reconciliation.

As was emphasized last night, there are several steps we should consider as we prepare to receive this sacrament.  CLICK HERE to read more.

Dear SJS Families,

Change is never easy but the FSA knew that in order to continue providing meaningful support to our school, change was the only way forward.  Perhaps the biggest change we made this year was eliminating fees and product based fundraisers.  Instead we asked families for a one-time donation (i.e. Annual Fund) to increase the efficiency of our fundraising program and focus the efforts of our volunteers on those events that we do best: Comedy Night, Daddy Daughter Dance, Ladies’ Night Out, Cultural Arts programs, Book Faire, Catholic Schools Week, and Graduation festivities for our 8th graders!

I am excited to share with you the following results:

The good news – Our families contributed $31,627 through the Annual Fund!  This is a 35% increase in funds raised over last year that were collected through fees and product fundraisers. We worked towards a more efficient program as we continue to strive to be better stewards of FSA funds.  This money will be used to support the many programs and initiatives the FSA seeks to fund including teacher and staff support & recognition, technology upgrades, and so much more!

The not so good news – Our stated goal was 100% participation from our families.  Unfortunately, we only had 66% of our families contribute.  Although we fell short of our goal, we had very positive feedback. We heard overwhelmingly that families were pleased that we eliminated product fundraising. We were also told how easy it was to donate to FSA on Orientation Day or online via FaithDirect.  By the way, it’s never too late to donate. You can click here to donate!

I want to sincerely thank the 188 families that contributed.  It is because of your generosity that FSA will continue to provide significant support to our incredible school.

Warm regards,

Julie Furmanski

FSA President
