Sixth through eighth grade students did a fabulous job last Friday as we celebrated a bilingual Mass to close out Hispanic Heritage Month! As Senorita Tomko teaches, culturas diferentes conectadas por la religión…while we may have some differences, God connects us all together

Students and staff had an opportunity to “make their marks” on the church renovation today. All were invited to sign their name to an I beam that will be used in construction. Parishioners may do so this weekend after the Masses.

Drop off and pick up reminders

Your cautious driving on campus is appreciated. Have patience and keep cell phones tucked away during your chauffeuring duties!

Please remember

  • The village has posted signs in both Evergreen cul-de-sacs regarding parking. Know that you risk being ticketed if you use these areas
  • Please do not use SJS neighbor’s driveways for turning around…a little ride around the block never hurt anyone!
  • We love our pets but for safety, they should stay at home or in the car during drop off and pick up!

SJS is so fortunate to have so many community resources available for our students! Visiting the Arlington Heights Memorial Library is always one of the best local field trips! The first grade availed themselves of this opportunity and learned so much exploring the library and checking out good fit books!

With weather changing, families need to be aware of the Emergency Closing Center information  If there is a change in the school’s status, due to weather or any circumstance that would initiate the school closing you will receive a phone call from Mrs. Pappas through SCHOOL REACH. Please make sure that your phone numbers are updated with the school office.

SJS information is also posted on the Emergency Closing Center which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You may check the status of St. James School in the following ways

  • Look at the Saint James School website
  • Go to the public website at and search for the school by name (St. James) and city( Arlington Heights), or by the main phone number (224.345.7145).
  • Listen to WGN Radio 720-AM, WBBM Radio 780-AM or watch CBS Ch. 2, NBC Ch. 5, ABC Ch. 7, FOX 32, WGN-TV Ch. 9 or CLTV cable for closing information
  • Please use one of these options to see the status of the school, and do not call the school or parish office as no one will be available to answer your call

Research has shown us that teaching children social-emotional skills is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children. From the most simple thing as politely greeting another and making eye contact with the person speaking to us, social skills and face-to-face interaction helps us to  successfully navigate our world, no matter our age.CLICK HERE to read more.

Do you love volunteering in the classroom?

Artist Awareness needs a few more volunteers!  No art experience is necessary.  Artist Awareness volunteers visit classrooms on select Mondays throughout the year to teach a mini lesson about important artists.  Each classroom visit lasts 15 minutes and materials are provided.

Please contact Lisa Woods ( if you are interested in helping or if you would like more information.
