I want to thank those of you who were able to attend Monday evenings discussion regarding the current abuse issues in the church. Father Matt conducted an open forum that allowed all who wished to speak to be heard. For those of you who could not attend, I do want to assure you that your children’s safety and well-being is the most important priority at St. James. All staff receives ongoing training in child protection not only through Virtus but through additional programs put on the Archdiocese.

Someone asked about the procedure for students who might pose in the classrooms relative to this issue. You should know that teachers would be address the issue clearly and briefly. Parents would be notified immediately as we do consider our partnership with you on all matters, to be of primary importance in our relationship with our Saint James families.

Should you have any questions regarding these issues and would like assistance in how to address them, please be assured that, in addition to our priests, our staff, particularly Mrs. McGowan, School Counselor, Mrs. Farrell, Director of Spiritual Formation and our teachers are available to support you.

Mrs. Conley, of our Religious Education program, shared this prayer of healing and support for abuse victims. You may want to include it in your daily prayer and share with others who want to do something meaningful to address these issues.

Daily Prayer for the Healing of Victims and for an End to All Abuse

Father of endless love, always near to the broken-hearted; you gave your only Son to save us by His Blood on the Cross.  Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace, join to your own suffering the pain of all who have been hurt in body, mind, and spirit by anyone within the Church who betrayed their trust.

Bring to an end all forms of abuse, wherever it is found.  Hear the cries of our brothers and sisters who have been gravely harmed, and the cries of those who love them and love your Church.   Soothe their hearts, steady their faith, and grant them justice enlightened by your truth.

Give us faithful and holy clergy and religious; and keep them close to you and your Mother, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their vocation, but may always be a reflection of your love and mercy.

Holy Spirit, heal your people’s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness.   Grant your Church the grace to act with courage, humility, contrition, and resolve, so as to be a beacon of your love in the world.  Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors, and grant that all harmed by abuse find full and lasting healing and peace.
