SJS families were recently notified of their ability access to their students’ spring 2018 ACT/ASPIRE results on Power School. You can click here to view a school wide comparison of scores for the past 3 years. Scores can also be compared to the national and archdiocesan averages. Once again, we’re proud to say that SJS meets or beats both!! Congratulations Bulldogs and thank you, teachers!



Academic Eligibility      Students in grades 5-8 and their families are reminded about athletic eligibility.


  • To maintain eligibility, a student must maintain an overall average of 77% or above in every class; otherwise, the student will be unable to participate in sports and/or extra-curricular activities for five school days. This period will include activities on a weekend within the five school day period
  • Grades will be checked for eligibility biweekly from the start of the season/activity on Tuesdays. Ineligibility will be reported to students, parents, coaches and other adult leaders of activities on Wednesdays. Ineligibility periods begin on Thursdays. Students and parents should monitor student grades on PowerSchool
  • A student must be present for at least half a day of school to participate in extra-curricular activities that evening. This includes all sports, clubs, dances, performances, rehearsals and practices

Please remember that informing student and families about ineligibility isn’t pleasant for anyone! With PowerSchool available 24/7, “I didn’t know” is not an excuse.

SJS Student Council sponsors Pizza with a Purpose as a monthly fundraiser for charitable causes. Last year donations were made to Hurricane Maria, Foundation for Children in Need, and The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. ORDER DEADLINE IS SEPT. 21.

Design This Year’s TIP-OFF T-shirt & Win a Prize!! 

SJS Athletics is calling all 6th thru 8th-grade student artists!  Now is your chance to create this year’s Tip-Off t-shirt.  This year, the athletic board is looking to have the t-shirt design created by an upper-grade student.  Please create a one-sided design using the school logo and sports at SJS. We would like to see soccer, volleyball, basketball, running, track/field, cheerleading/poms, and softball. You should include the wording of “St. James Tip-Off 2018”.  All designs should be drawn with black ink on a white piece of 8.5 x11 paper and write your name and homeroom on the back.  Designs are due to the Office, Attn: Tess Dean, by Friday, September 21st.   The athletic board will review all designs, and the winning design will be announced in the Fodder on Friday, September 28th.  The winner will receive a $5 concessions voucher, free t-shirt, and the fame of having your artwork represented on everyone’s shirt!

SAVE THE DATE!  TIP-OFF will take place on Friday October 26th for ALL students.

Our Box Tops contest is back!!!

Saint James collects Box Tops from participating products such as General Mills cereals, Ziploc bags, Annie’s snacks, Hefty bags, and many more!  The grade who collects the most box tops by the end of the school year will receive a prize!  Last year, we collected approximately 12,000 box tops for our school, which is $1200!  Each homeroom teacher has a collection box in the classroom, so please send your box tops in with your child!  For questions, please contact Gina Heuer at

The St. James School Council reconvened after its summer break and welcomed its new members.  School Council members for 2018-19 are Julie Delaney, Vic Fontanetta (Finance Committee Chair), Julie Furmanski (FSA President), Jennifer Hartman, Chris McKissack, Chad Woehrle, and Lisa Woods (Chairperson).  The mission of the Council is to serve in a leadership capacity and as an advisory group to the Parish Pastor and School Principal.  We seek to work cooperatively with them to advance the mission of our school and model our faith community.  We meet at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month in the parish boardroom.  Parents are welcome to attend.  Please contact Lisa Woods ( if you would like to raise an issue for discussion, so it may be placed on the agenda.
