TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

Our staff has been preparing for the new year all summer long! We are very excited with new strides in technology. And with your help, an additional 3 rooms have been upgraded with interactive white boards with short throw projectors. Teachers are proud owners of new Mac Air laptops, thanks to the SJS School and Family Association (FSA), and are continuing to engage in professional development specific to using technology to support the curriculum. Students will have regular access to various forms of tech to enhance learning across all subject areas. THANK YOU for supporting  SJS Technology!

 

  ORIENTATION DAY

Orientation Day for PK4-Grade 8 families is on Monday, August 20, and will include a variety of activities as in the past. Families with last name beginning A-L are asked to come at between 10:00 and 11:00 and families with last names beginning M-Z come between 11:00 and 12:00. This should help to ease check out lines. Please enter through the west doors.

Assorted groups will have tables in the Parish Center should you wish to visit them or sign up for a program. They are listed on the floor plan. All teachers will be present and families may visit the classroom to drop off supplies and meet their teachers. New families should come directly to the NEW FAMILY table in the Gathering Space.

Orientation Day for PK 3 is on August 28 from 9:30-10:30 in students’ respective classrooms.

Forms for Orientation Day will be send in next week’s Fodder.

 

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN

Remember that all volunteers must complete all Archdiocesan requirements prior to starting their volunteer experiences.

Requirements include

    1. completing the annual CANTS form (submit to school office)
    2. signing off on the Code of Conduct (submit to school office)
    3. completing the background check online
    4.  completing Virtus Training

HEALTH OFFICE

  FOOD SERVICE

Quest Hot Lunch online ordering for September should be available on August 18. Click here to get more information about the Quest at SJS.

Click here to access the Quest website. New families can receive student ID numbers needed for ordering on or after 8.20 by calling the school office at 224.345.7145.

Quest Food Service will begin on Sept. 4.

LUNCH POLICY

Families may choose between two options for lunch at SJS

  • Quest Food Service-ability to order up to 48 hours in advance
  • Sack lunch from home

Please refrain from lunches from outside sources such as Jimmy Johns, Portillos, McDonalds, etc. Additionally, students have the opportunity to have special lunches each month, October through May with Parents’ Club Special Lunch.

SJS respectfully requests that you to abide by this policy.

 

  UNIFORMS

Double check with the office about any clothing item before wearing if uncertain! This code will be enforced—REALLY. Uniforms should be a non-issue! Please make clothing purchases that are in compliance with the Saint James uniform code so that bought and worn clothing won’t have to be replaced.

Options that have proven successful for SJS families are Dennis Uniform and Lands End. Only Dennis carries the SJS uniform plaid items. Dennis has closed its Mount Prospect store. The nearest brick and mortar store is in Chicago just of the Kennedy expressway on Higgins at Harlem. Sample items are available in the SJS office for sizing purposes for online ordering.

Please be mindful of uniform requirements when making your purchases. The guidelines are in the SJS Student/Parent Handbook on the website. Click here for details on school shoes.

P.E. UNIFORMS 

Students in grades 6-8 are required to wear uniforms for Physical Ed.

You’ve been invited to begin shopping in the St James PE Uniforms 2018 online store. This online store has been set-up to make the ordering process easier for you. Orders can be placed from May 30, 2018 until August 15, 2018.

Browse all of the merchandise options your organization has made available to you. Be sure to carefully select the appropriate products, sizes and colors you need. Occasionally, your organization requires that certain products MUST be purchased in order to participate; these products are marked MANDATORY. The decision to include MANDATORY products is made by your organization.
Once you’re finished shopping, simply review your order and checkout. You will receive an Order Confirmation via email (at the email address you entered when ordering). Please look for this Order Confirmation email once you’ve completed your order.

The beginning of the year is a great time to make sure all student belongings have student’s name attached. You’d be astounded at the wealth of donations of lost and unclaimed clothing, lunchbags, etc. that are made each year.

As a reminder, FSA has eliminated fees & product-based fundraisers this school year. Instead we ask you to make a ONE-TIME donation to support the many FSA programs. Donations can be made on Orientation Day or via Faith Direct. Look for a postcard with more information in your mailbox later this week! Thank you for your generosity!
