FROM THE DESK OF MRS. PAPPAS
Abby Thengil and Lila Sheriff enjoyed a unique experience today joining SJS priests and learning about what a day is like for Father Matt and Father Derek. Thanks to our priests for hosting the girls as “Priests for a Day”, a Battle of the Books reward.
Seventh and eighth grade room parents threw a surprise shower for Miss Schneider and Mrs. Esquivel! Best to each of them on their new life adventures as a wife and mother ( in addition to being teachers at SJS)!!
From the Office of Catholic Schools – ACT Aspire 2018 Summative Test Results
This year’s ACT Aspire summative results will be available for school staffs on the ACT Aspire portal mid-late July 2018. As you know from your test administration in April, ACT Aspire used new test forms this year. The use of new forms requires ACT to “equate” raw scores to scale scores and national norms. Due to this equating process, results will be available to schools in July rather than in June. Please make sure to communicate this information to your school community. ACT cannot score tests just for Archdiocesan schools; it must score all tests administered nationally in the spring to create national norms.
Options that have proven successful for SJS families are Dennis Uniform and Lands End. Only Dennis carries the SJS uniform plaid items. Dennis has closed its Mount Prospect store. The nearest brick and mortar store is in Chicago just of the Kennedy expressway on Higgins at Harlem. Sample items are available in the SJS office for sizing purposes for online ordering.
SJS code: 900128257 Lands End will carry Sperry shoes beginning in June.

Thank you to Mrs. Dufern and all of the library volunteers for bringing so many worthwhile experiences to our students all year long!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Throughout the year we receive dozens of thank you notes from staff. The volunteer and financial support you provide to our committees and programs allows us to present staff with special luncheons, reimbursement for classroom expenses, special occasion gifts and more! Take a look at staff thank you notes here! It will put a smile on your face! 🙂
This summer our teachers will become acquainted with their new Macbook laptops funded by a $45,942 donation from FSA! We are excited to support technology upgrades in our school and look forward to continuing to provide our staff with funding to enhance the classroom experience for our students!
We look forward to seeing you all at the Creative Learning Fair tonight – Thursday, May 24 from 7-8pm in the Parish Center! A great place to enjoy ice cream and art!
With our graduation dinner/dance just around the corner, we extend our gratitude to committee chairs, Lisa Chu and Erin McAndrews, the video team of Tim Allaire, Dave Ferriss, and Jamie Kaepplinger, and our Seventh Grade parents for organizing and planning the event. This year as voted upon at our April meeting, Parents’ Club/FSA is proudly funding the entire event for all staff, graduates, and their parents. We warmly wish all of our graduating students an evening full of fun, laughter, and precious memories to take with you in your journey after SJS.
We warmly welcome our new President – Julie Furmanski, and our new Secretary – Lily Meyers to the Family and School Association board! An End of Year report with highlights and our fundraising goals and special events for 2018-2019 will come home in backpacks on June 1. YOU are a school parent – YOU are invested in our mission. We look forward to teaming up with all parents to continue supporting our school! Welcome to the St. James Family and School Association!
