As mentioned last week, SJS has made significant strides in technology this year led, in large part, to the generosity of our families, Parents Club, and efforts of Miss Kenny, Tech Teacher, and Miss Harter, SJS Educational Technologist, and diligent learning by our teachers. Teachers and students at all grade levels have been able to expand their capabilities and grow in their knowledge. All of us look forward to continuing this progression during 2018-2019!

Thank you for your generosity to the Sandwich Ministry this year!

St. James School Community, through your wonderful generosity nearly700 lunches were collected for Sandwich Ministry this year! Lunches were delivered to the following local social service organizations:

  • Catholic Charities in Des Plaines
  • Journeys-The Road Home in Palatine
  • Palatine Outreach Center/Partners for Our Communities

and also to the west side of Chicago

  • Grace House
  • St. Leonard House
  • Marillac Social Center
  • Deborah’s Place
  • Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity
  • and a park (many homeless people do not seek assistance at agencies)

Thank you to Mrs. Whelan and Mr. Smith for organizing these efforts and to the eighth grade teams which collected the lunches throughout the year and helping us to fulfill some of the Corporal Works of Mercy: feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty.



2018-19 School Supply Kits

School Supply kits are a great convenience for SJS families. Orders are placed and arrive at school ready for your student on Orientation Day in August! SJS families can click here to find ordering information. Orders must be placed on or before June 24.

***PLEASE NOTE*** We are happy to celebrate all students who achieved in academics, attendance, and  extra curricular clubs! Students will receive certificates for their various accomplishments in their classes. Due to space constraints with the renovation of the church and lack of a date available for the entire student body to gather, the awards assembly will​ not ​be held this year.

***2018-2019 Tentative Calendar***  Please note that the Office of Catholic schools is requiring all schools to take advantage of a professional development opportunity in April of 2019. All staffs will attend the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) Convention being held in Chicago next spring, on April 23 & 24, hence families will enjoy an extended Easter break!

All students in K-5th will participate in this concert. Students should dress in any or all of the following colors: red, black, white, silver, or gold with uniform bottoms, please!

Creative Learning Fair       An opportunity for service hours for 6-7-8 graders!  Junior High students who are looking for service hours should email Mrs. Papanicholas to sign up to helping with ice cream, face painting, and other kids activities from 6:30 to 8:30 on Thursday, May 24. Don’t delay!  Email today!

Uniform Exchange    Gently worn uniforms will be on display at the Creative Learning Fair!  Stock up for your growing students!  If you have plaid uniform items you wish to pass on please bring them the night of the fair and drop them at the exchange tables.  Thank you, Jill Justiniani, for offering this service for our families!

  • Dog Tag style Finisher Medals
  • Pancake Breakfast for all participants
  • Mayor’s Challenge (beat Mayor Tom Hayes 5K time and he’ll donate $5 to SALUTE, INC. This will be matched by several Rotary and Chamber member organizations.)


Net Proceeds from this event will fund SALUTE, INC.’s Veteran Direct Assistance Programs.
