Another calendar page will turn next week! May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother. We honor her in our daily prayers and special celebrations including May Crowning. All are invited to join the school on May 11. May Crowning will take place at the conclusion of 9:00 Mass.

Marian devotion is a rich gift which we want to pass along to our children. It is her example we need to follow. She is the ideal to which we all must set our sights. Submitting to God’s will is not an easy task. May we help our children realize the model that Mary provides for all of us as we pray through her intercession.

Every Monday, at 4:00 in the chapel a group of children and their families pray the rosary. This would be an ideal way to honor Our Mother. Please join this group, especially during the month of May!

Nineteen seventh grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at today’s all school Mass. Current eighth grade members executed a lovely ceremony and reception to congratulate these student and their family members.

Criteria for membership in this organization include scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.  Students who accept membership and are inducted into the SJS Chapter commit to participate in service projects in the school and larger community, maintain superior grades, and exhibit exemplary Christian character at all times.

    

Congratulations to the new seventh grade inductees and thank you to the current eighth grade members who have provided a fine example of faith, excellence, leadership, and service.

A few weeks back I shared with you a kind thank you letter  from the pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea Basilica and School in Key West, FL. This week a beautiful 15 X 10 piece of pointillism art picturing the Virgin Mary arrived with a note from the principal, Mr. Robert Wright. Both are pictured below. It is our honor to be able to serve a fellow Catholic School in need!

    

Mark your calendar for the school’s annual May Crowning after the all school Mass on May 11. This is one of our school’s most revered traditions during which we honor Mary, our soon to be graduates, and First Holy Communicants.

Our final meeting of the year is Tuesday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m. in the O’Brien Room (parish office basement).  Meeting minutes from our April 17 social meeting are available on the Parents’ Club webpage.  Within the minutes, in “new business” is a link to the presentation that was shared during our meeting.  It includes detailed results from our survey and how the results connect with and helped shape changes that were proposed and voted upon during the meeting.  Also available on our web page is a link to our updated bylaws, and the NEW approved mission statement that will be official for the 2018-2019 school year.  This is an exciting time for our family and school organization and we hope you’ll read all about this important news!

Volunteer to be a room parent here! Being a room parent is a really fun way to be involved at school.   Selections are being made SOON!  SJS LOVES our room parents!!

Teacher Appreciation Week! May 1-4

Our teachers deserve the best!  Don’t forget to participate in your class’s teacher appreciation effort organized by your room parents.  On Tuesday, the staff will enjoy another delicious luncheon hosted by our hospitality team.  In addition, our teaching staff will receive stipend checks totaling $4,300.  These stipends are provided to offset expenses that teachers incur during the school year and are made possible due to your continued support of our fundraising programs.  Catholic School teachers are very special people and we appreciate all that they do every day for our children!

Spiritwear   SJS spiritwear is available year-round by visiting our Cheer Shoppe website.  New designs, clothing options, and more glitzy wear coming in 2018-2019!


FROM THE PARISH BUSINESS OFFICE

A reminder to those who elected to pay the participating parishioner tuition rate: We recognize and appreciate families who have met the donation requirement for the 17/18 school year.  For those who haven’t, please remember the commitment is $1000 for K-8 families and $500 for  PK-only families, due by April 30th.  Donations can be placed in the church collection basket this weekend OR sent directly to the parish business office.  You can also donate online with Faith Direct via the parish website (use the appeal “One Time Gift”).

Next week tuition will be raised $1300 (reflecting the K-8 non-participating rate) or $1000 (reflecting the Pre-K non-participating rate) for those who have not met their financial obligation.  If a tuition adjustment is necessary, you will be notified by email (using the email address on file with SMART).  ALL SMART tuition obligations must be met by May 20.

SCOUTING NEWS    Cub Scouts in Action    

This week a group of Scouts from Pack 266 met to help clean-up the school and rectory grounds by picking up trash. We first talked about safety and the importance of keeping our world clean and then got to work. There was a lot of enthusiasm for the job particularly getting into and out of those hard to reach yet critical spots behind bushes, structures etc.

                 


 


This year’s Rockin’ With the Cops event is Thursday, June 7, from 7-10 PM at Pioneer Park, 500 S. Fernandez, AH.  Applications can obtained from the Village of Arlington Heights Website, vah.com, signed by a parent/guardian and brought to the temporary police station at 1500 W.
