FROM THE DESK OF MRS. PAPPAS

Misericordia Candy Days are coming up. Misericordia is a not for profit organization on the north side of Chicago. Misercordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. The St. James NJHS students will be getting an early start next Thursday, April 26, by offering an out of uniform day to collect for that cause. Details are in the flyer below. In addition, NJHS students will also be collecting from parents at dismissal in the west parking lot.Your generosity is appreciated! P.S., no candy will be distributed at school.

Congratulations to Isabel Klimowicz and Natalia Ayala who were named State Winners in the 2017-18 Illinois Economic Concepts Poster Contest!

This year, nearly 2,000 students throughout the state in grades 1-8 illustrated their understanding of economic concepts in five regional contests. The top 24 entries from each regional competition were submitted for judging in a state-wide competition. From these entries, twelve state winners were selected, along with twelve honorable mention entries. The state winning drawings will be featured in a 2018-19 school-year calendar, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial. In the coming month, a list of names along with images of the twelve State Winners and State Honorable Mention entries will be posted on Econ IL’s web site at: http://econillinois.org/educators/economics-poster-contest/awards-winners.shtml.

Administrative Professionals Day

Wednesday, April 25th is a day to recognize some very helpful people in our school. On behalf of all school families, Parents’ Club provides a gift to our office staff to express our gratitude for all that they do for us and our students all year long. This gift is made possible through your support of our fundraising programs.  Don’t forget to say “Thank You” to Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Mannion, and Mrs. Shade on Wednesday!

Cultural Arts

Students enjoyed a dazzling display of laser light in two different presentations from Prismatic Magic (Laser Safari & American Pride Spectacular) on Thursday.  Thank you Jan Langfeldt DiCola for chairing our Cultural Arts committee this year!  Three completely different curricular enhancing presentations throughout the year were all funded by the generosity of our school families through Parents’ Club fundraising programs.  These presentations totaled $2,195.  We look forward to more engaging, educational, and fun Cultural Arts presentations next year!
