FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome back and Happy Easter season! As Catholics, we celebrate for 40 days after this great feast. The hefty congregations for Easter Sunday celebrations set a great trend. All are invited back this coming Sunday to continue the celebration of the resurrection of Christ! Keep rejoicing with the Risen Lord at Sunday Mass!

As some of you may remember, this past Wednesday evening, a valuable presentation was offered by Wheeling Township on internet safety for our teens. Several SJS parents attended along with the priests and members of the staff. The information was extremely valuable and some of it very shocking and downright scary!! So much of what is available to our children online carries potential danger, particularly in gaming and chat rooms.  I strongly urge you to get pertinent pieces of the presentation from this website https://www.naperville.il.us/services/naperville-police-department/programs-and-services/youth-programs-and-resources/internet-safety/

Detective Wistocki, the presenter, urged the audience to “arm our children with information”. At their age their feel invincible. By learning what they are exposed to, we can be proactive as parents and educators.

The Venegas family (Ella, Grade 6 and Gabi, Grade 4) is currently hosting a foreign exchange student from Chile! Alexsandra is attending Hersey HS as a senior this year, and has enjoyed participating in swim team, LASO, ASL club, and even badminton!   Students from all over the world are eager to experience what it’s like to live in America.  Sharing daily life with a teenager from another country and culture is a rich and rewarding experience and is a wonderful way for you and your family to build a more just and peaceful world.  Consider actively becoming part of a global family by hosting a student!   Visit https://www.afsusa.org/ or contact Kia Venegas if you’d like to learn more:  kiasvenegas@comcast.net / 847-612-7572
