The nation’s Catholic school communities unite in prayer following the tragic shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. “With heavy hearts, NCEA and Catholic school communities around the country stand united to offer prayers of solace for the families of the victims, the injured, the first responders and hospital staff and all of those in the Parkland community who have been touched by this brutality,” said Thomas Burnford, president/CEO. “Together we pray that all of those affected will feel God’s compassion and comfort as they struggle to restore hope and security in their lives.”

Avoid the hike in fees by submitting your 2018-2019 application TODAY!. Fees go up $50 per application tomorrow! Be sure to complete the entire application and place fee through Faith Direct or submit paper applications with fees to school office.
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up before long—Thursday, March 22 between 4:00 and 6:00. Teachers will be compiling their lists and contacting parents if they require a conference regarding a child’s progress. Parents, too, may request a conference. To do so, please send an email to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include your child’s name, grade, and teacher. A schedule will be sent home on March 16.
LAST CHANCE FOR PRE K 4 STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Empower Illinois’ tax credit scholarship application will open on Tuesday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
In addition to the new date and time, Empower Illinois is implementing a change to how it will accept applications. The application will now be a two-step process in an effort to make it more convenient for families and provide more time for them to complete the application. This new process will also help Empower Illinois better manage the expected demand for scholarships. View this video tutorial about how to apply, including steps on how to reserve your place in line on February 27.
Step One – Registration: On February 27 at 7 p.m., families will complete a brief online form with their name and contact information, child’s name and preferred school. The goal of this step is to fulfill the first come, first served nature of the application. Every registration form will be time stamped and will determine each family’s place in line to complete the application. Families will be able to access the registration page of Empower Illinois’ website from a computer or mobile device.
Please refer to the attached screenshots of step one of the registration process: page one, page two, page three and the reservation fields. These are DRAFTS but we don’t expect them to change much, if at all. Feel free to share these screenshots with your school families if you think they will be helpful for them to review before the application opens on Tuesday.
Step Two – Application: After families reserve their place in line by completing the registration form, families will be emailed a unique link to complete the actual application. The application links will be sent on a rolling basis, over a few weeks, so families should not be alarmed if they do not receive a link immediately. After receiving the application email, families will have three days to complete the full application and submit all required documents at a time that is most convenient for them. To help families, Empower Illinois will provide application support through their website and phone helpline (855.318.1222).
It is important to note that scholarships will still be awarded on a first come, first served basis. As mentioned above, Step one of the application process will determine each family’s place in line, so it’s important that families complete the form as soon as possible on Tuesday, February 2
ASPIRE Testing for grades 3-8 is scheduled for the week of April 9-13. Please refrain from appointments that may keep students from school on those days.
All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are invited to participate in this year’s LIVING STATIONS to be performed on Good Friday, March 30.

If God is for us, who can be against?
As we enter into construction, we will need to work together. We are blessed with an opportunity through the prayer and sacrifices of many to address the following issues:
1. Create a Church that is handicapped accessible and will seat 824 worshippers.
2. Create a parking lot surrounding the Church with an additional 50 parking spaces.
Those two major accomplishments will require us to be flexible and work together over the coming months. I ask that as a congregation we be respectful of our neighbors. Allow me to answer some questions that you might have concerning the upcoming project. READ MORE IN THIS WEEK’S BULLETIN.

“Love One Another” Thank You, students for participating in our Catholic Schools Week Mismatch/Wearing Red Days! Bulldog Bucks, which included students’ prayers, and our $1,322.78 SJS Giving Tree gift to Basilica of Saint Mary of the Sea Catholic School in Key West, Florida have been mailed. Principal, Mr. Wright, explained that some families are not yet back in their homes and their school continues to recover from the effects of Hurricane Irma. He is very appreciative of our demonstration of love through donation and prayers.
Thank you to all parents who continually provide food and drinks for our teacher luncheons. Special thanks from our CSW committee to Sandra Chaplin, Mena Giovenco and Carina Deitschel for helping with set-up and clean-up!
