Welcome Back to School and Happy New Year!
I know I speak for the entire staff when saying THANK YOU for all of your expressions of appreciation to us, at Christmastime and throughout the school year. From birthday/holiday gifts to giving outside arrival supervisors hand warmers on sub-zero mornings, to your kind emails, and smiles at dismissal—-we are very grateful for your partnership in growing our children to be the people God wants them to be! God bless you!

~Our 7th grade students did a beautiful job this morning at the weekly all school Mass. Proclaiming the readings and serving as greeters and gift bearers are great sources of personal pride for our students, unique opportunities for them to express their faith, not to mention the poise displayed in accepting and executing these special roles at Mass. .

All school families are invited to participate in a special way in any/all 2nd Sunday of the month Masses at 10:00. Sign up is easy on the SJS website at http://stjamesschoolah.org/digital-backpack/ivolunteer/

~PLEASE NOTE—as of Monday Jan. 8th after school care will be moving to the library.  Pick up will be under canopy in the parish center parking lot.  Please go to door B8 and a supervisor will let you in.

~As you know, at SJS we start each morning with prayer. At the conclusion of prayers, we have our announcements and the final announcement every day students are reminded to do their very best and BE KIND. This was one of the points made at the Parent Information Night back in August. Dinner conversation could include discussions of how each of us has been kind that day.

Relative to this point, an SJS parent shared a link to a terrific article. It offers practical, concrete ways in which we can continue to cultivate kindness in our children. They include

  •  make caring for others a priority
  • provide opportunities for children to practice caring and gratitude, expand your child’s circle of concern
  • be a strong moral role model and mentor
  • guide children in managing destructive feelings

Each point carries reasons why it’s important, and how to implement strategies along with examples for implementation. I hope you find it useful! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/parenting/wp/2014/07/18/are-you-raising-nice-kids-a-harvard-psychologist-
